Massachusetts Racial Imbalance Law is amended.

July 26, 1974

Officially Chapter 636, it is signed by Gov. Francis Sargent. The amended law no longer authorizes the state Board of Education to require school district to develop racial imbalance plans or face the loss of state funds, but rewards those who to with additional funds. It also allows minority students an “absolute right” to transfer into schools where they make up less than 30% of the enrollment.
